Gary Speed R.I.P
Just to give some more detail I was asked to play in John Hartson's match in aid of his cancer charity.I was an OK player about twenty five years ago, never in a million years good enough to play professionally. It's a great buzz to play alongside some of the greats. After about ten minutes I received a proper verbal rant from someone,Gary Speed came up to me and within a second he put me at ease & gave me some choice words that i could use if it happened again.I left straight after the game but for weeks later I was reflecting on how classy and perceptive Gary had been.It was a charity match and I was a forty year old musician, what the fuck do they expect. It took him five seconds but it corresponds with what everyone, friends & fans have said,he was special and cared for people.I'm just gutted I didn't have a pint afterwards and say cheers.RIP
